How Often Should a Pool Be Serviced? What a Visit Should Include
By Imperial Valley Pool Services · Updated 2026-10-23
In the Imperial Valley, weekly service is the standard for most residential pools. A complete visit includes skimming, brushing, vacuuming, emptying baskets, checking the filter and equipment, testing and balancing the water, and a report of what was done.
Pools in a hot climate go downhill fast. A pool that's fine on Monday can be cloudy by the following Monday in July. That is why weekly visits are the norm here.
What a visit should include
- Skim the surface and empty skimmer and pump baskets.
- Brush walls, steps and tile line.
- Vacuum the floor as needed.
- Test the water and balance chemicals.
- Check the filter pressure and the equipment.
- Report what was done, with readings.
Weekly or biweekly?
Weekly is best for most pools, especially in summer. Biweekly can work for a lightly used pool in cooler months if chemicals are stable and a cover is used, but the risk of algae goes up.
How to judge your pool service
- Do you get readings and notes after every visit?
- Are the numbers in range, week after week?
- Do they flag equipment problems early?
- Can you reach someone when you have a question?
What we do
Every IVPS visit is documented with photos and a chemical report, so you can see what was done without being home. See what's included in our services, compare plans and pricing, or read our service guide.
Frequently asked questions
Can I skip service in winter?
Pools in the Imperial Valley stay usable most of the year, and algae can still grow in mild weather. Some owners reduce frequency in winter. Ask for advice for your pool.
What if I'm away?
Keep service going. A pool left for two weeks in summer can go green quickly.
